 Vancouver Watch

Coming off of an Olympic gold medal in 2006, the spotlight continued to shine and so did he. He marched through the 2007 season taking podiums across the world, claiming snowboarding's highest honors in 2007 with victories at the Winter X Games (superpipe), as well as the Burton Global Open Championship and the TTR Tour Championship. With another sweeping performance at the 2009 Winter X Games, he added two more gold medals to his pile in superpipe and slopestyle. A sure favorite for the 2010 Olympic Games, look for the flying tomato to hit Vancouver in record-setting fashion.

 Personal

At four years old he was already on the slopes of June Mountain shredding with the family in California, modeling after his older brother, Jesse. But at 5 years old, doctors noticed that he suffered from a condition called tetralogy of Fallot, which is a series of heart malformations. He under went two surgeries to repair his damaged heart.

An avid snowboarder, he stays busy designing his own clothing lines for Burton and Oakley and recently added his own video game to his brand.

 Did You Know...?

  • Owns a Lamborghini
  • Has his own men's and women's snowboarding gear lines with Burton
  • Has his own video game
  • Worked with Oakley to create its first signature goggle
  • Has a guitar and (at least used to) try to practice an hour a day

After winning almost every snowboarding competition he entered, Shaun White became sponsored by Burton and turned pro when he was just 13. White was nicknamed Future Boy when he first started competing as a pro. He was only 13 but was already pushing the limits of snowboarding. White established a rep for getting big air and tying together snowboarding tricks in ways that had never been done before. In 2003, White stomped all over Winter X Games and every other event he decided to enter. White won the gold medal in the slopestyle and the superpipe and also took the Games' best-athlete award. A month later, Shaun became the youngest snowboarder to win the US Open Slopestyle Championship. In 2004, White carried off gold from the X Games again, by winning the Snowboarding Slopestyle competition.

In his 2005-2006 season, White went undefeated with 12 victories, including the Olympic Gold medal at the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games.  In 2007, White placed third in slopestlyle and first in the halfpipe at the 25th Burton US Open and was crowned the first "Burton Global Open Champion" at the event.  In both 2008 and 2009, White won the SuperPipe gold at the X Games, becoming only the second person to win gold in back to back years.

After setting new standards in the world of snowboarding, White decided to make his mark in skateboarding. White joined Tony Hawk on his Gigantic Skatepark Tour in 2002 and made his pro skateboarding debut at the 2003 Slam City Jam. Shaun White finished fourth in the vert half pipe, which qualified him for the 2003 X Games, where he finished sixth in the vert competition.  By 2005, White was medalling at the X Games, taking silver in the vert competition.  He topped that in 2007 with gold and won the bronze in 2008...
