Hannah Teter and Shaun White made history in Torino, doubling up on gold and following in the footsteps of Kelly Clark and Ross Powers from 2002. Since winning gold in 2006, she has given back through humanitarian efforts and donations to causes around the world with the goal of excelling both in life and in sport. But with 2010 in sight, she has her sights set on a gold repeat on Cypress Mountain in Vancouver.
Personal
Born into a large family of snowboarders, two of her brothers, Abe and Elijah, are on the U.S. Snowboarding team while another, Amen, is her agent. Both of her parents, Jeff and Patt, are also snowboarders. She started snowboarding at age eight.
She has a charity called Hannah's Gold, where she sells Vermont Maple Syrup, currently donating all proceeds to World Vision. She is also active in other charities, raising money for causes such as Darfur and is a spokesperson for Boarding for Breast Cancer.
Did You Know...?
- Participates in the Teter family tradition of making maple syrup and carries it on the road with her when she travels
- In her spare time she surfs, wakeboards, kneeboards, plays soccer and practices yoga
- Has been nominated for three ESPY awards and won Best Action Sports Female in 2006
- Became the youngest member of the U.S. Snowboarding team in 2003
- Appeared in a 2005 documentary about the growth of snowboarding, First Descent, filmed in Alaska alongside fellow snowboarders Shaun White and Terje Håkonsen
