Ted Ligety: Vancouver Bound

A champion after only his first trip to the Olympics, being Vancouver Bound means something special to the U.S. Alpine Ski Team's Ted Ligety (Park City, UT). Ligety kicked off his trek too Vancouver finishing second in the season opener Oct. 26 in Soelden, Austria - just seven months after knee surgery.

"Being Vancouver Bound is super exciting for me. To come into another Olympics, especially in Canada, which is close to my family and friends and having a lot of people up there watching us is going to be really exciting," Ligety said.

Four years ago, in the cold mountain air, his breath standing out in the floodlights of the brightly-lighted slalom course in Sestriere, Ligety became an Olympic champion. His parents, his friends, his family stood at the bottom of the mountain reveling in the success that took a lifetime of dedication and support to achieve. Now, for Ligety and his Vancouver Bound teammates, it's time to do it again.

As the 2009 season came to a close, Ligety was dealing with season-long wear and tear that required time rehabbing at the USSA Center of Excellence. But, as the summer weeks passed, the champion was back in top form and preparing himself for the road ahead.

A total 16 World Cup podiums, a World Cup GS title, a World Championship bronze medal and his Olympic gold. These are all accomplishments that the shredder has had to work for in the lead up to a moment where he stands on the cusp of the 2010 Olympic season ready to be Vancouver Bound.
