White, Clark Win Mt. Snow Dew Tour
Tom Kelly/USSA January 12, 2009
MT. SNOW, VT (Jan. 11) - The top of the podium shined with Olympic gold medalists as Kelly Clark (Mt. Snow, VT) and Shaun White (Carlsbad, CA) won the halfpipe event at the Winter Dew Tour Sunday at Mt. Snow.
"I'm always looking to do well at the events. A podium is great, but first place is even better. I'm just happy for today," Clark said. "I had a great run and it was good to be home in front of my family and friends."
The women of U.S. Snowboarding swept their podium with Clark for the win, Olympic Gold Medalist Hannah Teter (Belmont, VT) in second and up and comer Ellery Hollingsworth (Stratton, VT) in third.
Clark, who was second at the last stop of the Dew Tour, weaved a frontside air, backside 540, frontside 540, cab 360, frontside 540 backside air through the halfpipe for the win in front of her home crowd.
"So many of my friends and family came out and it was great," Clark said. "Everyone gets to see why I am gone all the time and what it is that I'm actually doing."
Clark now heads to Laax, Switzerland, Jan. 12-16 for the Burton European Open before she returns to the states for the X Games.
"I've got one more event before the X Games but I am hoping to get some more time in the halfpipe and get ready," Clark said.
In the men's event, White took top honors with Steve Fisher (Breckenridge, CO) finishing second and Kevin Pearce (Norwich, VT) in third.
"Second place is great and it definitely made my trip to Vermont that much better. Going in to the X Games with a little bit of momentum is always good," Fisher said.
Fisher, who had a run of frontside 7, cab 7 seven, frontside 9, backside 9, frontside 1080, cab 900, said after having a tough time at the Breckenridge Dew Tour, Sunday's competition was a bit of redemption.
"I was thinking I needed to land. It wasn't like I came out thinking I had to do well to make up for, but I was thinking it would be nice and luckily it worked out," Fisher said.
The final stop of the Winter Dew Tour hits Northstar-at-Tahoe in California Feb. 19-22, just after the Jan. 29 - Feb. 1 U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix at Boreal, CA.
